  • Haily spent the day with us.  We made pumpkin pies from fresh pumpkin.  The girls made wreaths to hang near their front doors.  They got all of the evergreens and flowers from our yard.

  • Hannah Is Nine!

Hannah is officially 9 years old.  She was suppose to just have one friend over for this birthday.  She was blessed to end up with 3 friends to join her while she celebrated.  They played and ran around for hours.  They decorated a butterfly cake and then had ice cream with it.  They dressed up in "Karate Robes" and kicked and chopped at a pinata.  It was a fun day of giggles.  What a wonderful life to have friends to celebrate with.  We didn't get a picture of Sam, she came later in the day.

  • Our summer has ended.  So Sad!  We love summer and playing.  Now we are back to doing school work.  The boys are playing flag football with the home school team.  I still play in the symphony and the winds (band).  So between school, bands, and football we keep pretty busy.

We planted an apple tree a couple of years ago.  We were beginning to wonder if it would ever produce more then a few apples.  This year it gave us a bumper crop.  We have a large box of apples in the garage to munch on.  Roger took pictures of it.  Our cherry tree also produced a lot of cherries this year.  Yahoo!  It didn't freeze in the spring.  There were also tuns of apricots on the apricot tree.  Grapes did well also.  I love fruit.  As for the garden, our tomatoes and carrots were abundant.

We went on a train ride in the mountains with Rachael and Luke.  It was a 2 hour round trip.   The river was on one side of us and the river on the other side.  The weather was perfect.

Grandma made a lovely afgan.  I took some pictures of her with it.  She is going to use one for a Christmas card.

Doesn't she look so happy?  The afgan turned out so lovely.

Off to make an apple cake.  I got the recipe from the Costco Connection magazine.  It is the yummiest cake we have had.  We will take it to small group tomorrow night.  You can look it up on this sight.

  • Violin Camp

Daniel had violin camp this week in McCall.  Hannah's friend Haily came with Daniel, Hannah, and I.  We stayed in our camper at the Pilgrim's Cove Camp.  While Daniel played his violin all day with different groups of 4 stringed instruments, Hannah and Haily played in the lake.  We had canoes and kayaks that we could use at any time.  The girls kayaked and fished a lot.  They also got in a lot of swimming.  It was in the high 80's each day.  McCall 2009 006

The girls went ice skating during Daniel's concert.  The concert was two blocks away from

the ice rink.  They are great ice skaters.  It was Hannah's first time.  I think all of that

    roller blading really helped.

They fished for 5 hours one day and caught nothing.  They were so determined.

The next day the camp host's son caught a carp that was over a foot long, on our pole.

He was going to throw it back in, "It is a trash eating fish."  The girls asked for it.

We took it back to camp.  I have not gutted a fish in over 20 years.  That was my dad and

brother's job.  While cutting this fish open, the girls were screeching, and all I was thinking was

"I hope I can get the fish smell out of my watermelon cutting board."  We then fried it up with a stick

of butter in a skillet on the stove in the camper.  Now I am hoping I can get the fish smell out of the camper

before Roger comes to spend the night, Saturday.  The girls ate every bit of that fish.  They had to sift through

all the bones, it is a very boney fish.  They loved the experience but decided if they caught another fish that they

    would throw it back.  PHEW!!!

Not bad.  Did I mention that the big knife was as sharp as a butter knife.  Had to use the small one.

Betty Hopper working with Daniel and his new friend Sam.  They were the only

kids at the classical camp. Mrs. Hopper is in her 80's.  She walked up and down

the hills from building to building and played in all the groups.  She has won many fiddle contests and

graduated from Jillard.  Very talented and so very sweet.  All five of her children were at the camp,

    including her daughter Jana Jae.

Daniel loved the camp and wants to go next year. He was invited to stay for fiddle camp.

There were more kids at fiddle camp.

Hannah & Haily Skating.  Not bad for the first time on ice.  Haily thinks it was her 2nd time to skate.

Roger drove my motorcycle up on Saturday to join us.  We went on a kayak ride around the cove.

Sunday morning, we were planning on packing up and going into town to church.  Well, Roger moved the

suburban into place to hook it up.  He jumped out to see how far he needed to back up. When he went to

start the suburban, nothing happened.  We looked under the hood and jiggled the wires on the battery and the doors locked.  The front door was still open, so he backed up the suburban, threw the keys on the dash, shut the door, hooked up the camper, went to drive it out of the spot, and all the doors were locked.  Weird.  The keys were in the car.  I called my sister, who was at her church, to see if she would run our house key over to our neighbor's house, Haily's mom, and they could get our extra suburban keys out of the house and bring them up.  Haily's mom and nanna drove up to McCall to bring our keys to us.  They took Haily out to eat and home.  Wasn't that sweet of my sister and Haily's mom and nanna?

McCall has a new water fountain.  Fun!

  • Motorcycle trip to Astoria

We just took a 1200 mile trip on our cycles.  We left here Thursday morning and drove to Long Beach, Wa.  It took us 13 hours to get there.  We took a lot of breaks.  We stayed in Seaside Motel and Cabins.  Very nice cabin.  It had a bedroom, kitchen/dining room/living room.  The pull out couch bed had a broken bar.  So Hannah slept on it cross wise, perfect for her.  Daniel slept on the floor on the couch cushions.  It was a short walk to the beach.  The beach was miles and miles long.  Very sandy.  Long Beach 001

We watched this Sea Lion swim onto the beach.  At first it laid there,

like it was dead.  Then it stood up and started walking towards us.  Little

girls were screaming.  Pretty soon there was a crowd all around taking pictures.

The sea lion just posed for 20 minutes for the pictures.  We left and came back 40 minutes

later.  The sea lion was resting with signs around it warning people to stay back that this

was a common occurrence and that the animal was probably ill or injured.

We came home from our trip on Monday.  Roger has to leave for work at 3PM.

What a great trip.  So thankful to be safe and that we didn't have any problems.
